The Pinellas County departments of Emergency Management and Public Affairs were recently awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award from the National Hurricane Conference held April 6-10 in Norfolk, Va.
Pinellas County won for its work in fostering hurricane awareness among its citizens through the county's Hurricane EXPO and Host Home program.
The fifth annual Hurricane EXPO is scheduled for June 13 at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive, Largo. The EXPO features displays and products that are designed to help prepare for a hurricane. The Host Home program attempts to relieve hurricane shelter space by grouping individuals in evacuation zones with others of like interests or needs in non-evacuation zones.
