TONIGHT: ANGELS VS. DEVIL RAYS

WHEN/WHERE: 8:05; Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg.

TV/RADIO: ESPN (no blackout); WFLA-AM 970, WLVU-FM 106.3.

PITCHERS: Tampa Bay RHP Dennis Springer (1-2, 4.43) vs. Anaheim RHP Jack McDowell (1-2, 4.18).

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: After spending two seasons with the Angels, Springer gets his first chance to pitch against his old team even though the Rays have played Anaheim six times. Add the fact that the game is nationally televised and the knuckleballer should have enough incentive. McDowell has given up 32 hits and a team-high five home runs in 28 innings.

BY THE NUMBERS

0: Errors committed by Rays outfielders in 163 chances.

2: Hits for leftfielder Rich Butler in his past 25 at-bats.

3: Consecutive home games the Rays have lost.

6: Games in which centerfielder Quinton McCracken has at least three hits.

7.5: Extra-base hits per game (before Saturday) at Tropicana Field (6.3 is AL average.)

31: Double plays the Rays have turned, best in the AL.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"As a hitter I would like to hit here for 81 days. It's a pretty generous park. (But) stay away from the catwalks, that's the truth."
