Florida Design Consultants acquires engineering firm

Florida Design Consultants of Clearwater has acquired the engineering and surveying assets of Casson Engineering Company of New Port Richey.

"We see this as an opportunity to combine an older, well-established company like Casson with a younger, high-tech company like Florida Design Consultants," said Edward Mazur Jr., president of Florida Design Consultants at 2639 McCormick Drive. "We merged our assets to create a more up-to-date, full-service company in both Pinellas and Pasco counties."

Casson was established in 1963 by Walter A. Casson Jr. The company now will do business as FDC-Casson Consulting, Mazur said. The merger creates a consulting firm of 55 engineers, surveyors, transportation planners and environmental experts, he said.

This is the second acquisition Mazur said his company has made since he and Gregg Singleton created Florida Design Consultants two years ago. In mid-1996, the company acquired Seminole Engineering, which had a 25-person staff and had been in business nearly 20 years in Largo, he said.

Mazur, 53, a New York City native, has been working in the Tampa Bay area for 25 years. He previously worked for Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jernigan in Tampa and was president and principal stockholder in King Engineering Associates in Clearwater until late 1993.

Several people in the Clearwater firm will transfer to the New Port Richey office. "We're looking to hire people up there also," Mazur said.
