The new restaurant going in where the old Bob Evans was on Missouri Avenue in Clearwater will offer home-style cooking.
Country Harvest Restaurant, in a building across the street from the old Sunshine Mall, will be run by George Trizis, who also operates the Country Skillet on Roosevelt Boulevard with his father and brother.
The 150-seat restaurant that's scheduled to open this week will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. It will have a full bar.
The business, which is leasing the building, will create about 30 mostly full-time jobs.
Contract pending on sale
of Pioneer Bank building
Someone has a contract to buy the old Pioneer Bank building on Cleveland Street in Clearwater, but even the owner doesn't know who the buyer is.
Jay Ross, who owns the property with partners, says the buyer is a trust, and he doesn't know who the members are. He says buyers want to make storage out of the five-story, 46,000-square-foot building that has been empty for seven years.
Ross isn't sure what the buyers would store. They told city planners that they wanted to store paper or microfilm files. They also discussed constructing another small building on the site, also for storage.
The building is east of Cleveland Plaza on Cleveland Street.
Wild Birds Unlimited
opens Clearwater store
Wild Birds Unlimited, a franchise of a national chain, has opened a store in Pinellas.
Robert and Barbara Sfraga opened the store a couple of weeks ago in the Bayside Bridge Plaza, at the southwest corner of McMullen-Booth Road and State Road 590.
The 2,500-square-foot store carries wooden and plastic bird feeders, bird baths, bird and squirrel feed, decorative fountains, gifts, books, videos and music.
Movies, Games & Music
closes downtown store
The owner of the Movies, Games & Music store that opened in downtown Clearwater last fall says he closed it within a few months because it was pulling business from his other store.
Brad Kugler said his store in the Target and Home Depot shopping center at Drew Street and U.S. 19 remains open.
Kugler's company still owns the 17,000-square-foot building in downtown Clearwater, on the northwest corner of Chestnut Street and Myrtle Avenue. The front part is available for lease, but Kugler said he wants to keep the rest for warehouse space.
Retail is a small part of the business. Kugler's company, Distribution Video & Audio, buys and sells tapes wholesale.
Kissin' Cuzzins move
makes room for Eckerd
The Kissin' Cuzzins restaurant that has been at the southeast corner of U.S. 19 and Curlew Road for 11 years is moving to make way for a free-standing Eckerd drugstore.
The restaurant will move about a mile south on U.S. 19, to the former Bill Knapp's restaurant, which has been empty for about three years. The building, which will be renovated, is a bit larger than the current Kissin' Cuzzins, manager Jim Caposey said.
The neighborhood restaurant known for its breakfasts will expand its dinner menu to include more items, such as prime rib.
The restaurant plans to close June 7 and reopen in the new location June 15.
coming to Largo
A Suburban Lodge, which would be Largo's first hotel, isn't the only new project planned near the southeast corner of Ulmerton Road and 66th Street.
Directly on the corner, a former bakery that has been empty for years will be torn down to make way for a new, free-standing Walgreens drugstore. The Hub Cap lounge just to the south also will be torn down.
Just to the east of the Walgreens, a vacant parcel remains on Ulmerton Road, then the land for the Suburban Lodge, then Honeywell.
The property already has been annexed into Largo.
