Man charged with having sex with a minor

Hernando County sheriff's deputies arrested a Sumter County man Monday and charged him with sexual battery on a child younger than 16. David Vincent Register, 21, 4205 Burwell Road, turned himself in to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest, sheriff's spokeswoman Deanna Dammer said. In a news release, officials said Register went to the home of a 13-year-old girl April 4 and had consensual sex with her, although he knew she was a minor. Register is being held at the Hernando County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Doctor pointed gun

at motorists, reports say

BROOKSVILLE _ A Clermont doctor was arrested Saturday and accused of pointing a handgun at another driver. According to a sheriff's report, 43-year-old Jaime Colon Gonzalez, 17435 Lakeview Lane, Clermont, pulled his white Mercedes Benz behind a gray Chevrolet Corsica at 9:30 a.m. Steven Brady, 400 W Robinson St., Orlando, told police he and his wife were on Cortez Boulevard when a man began to tailgate them. The man and Brady made obscene gestures at one another. After passing, Brady said, the man pointed a gun at him and his wife. Gonzalez told police he waved his .357 Ruger at the couple, but said he never removed the cloth case, the report said. Police found a .380-caliber semi-automatic in the Mercedes' console and a loaded .357-caliber revolver in the glove compartment. Gonzalez faces charges of aggravated assault. He was taken to the Hernando County Jail and released on $14,000 bail.

Armed man robs Spring Hill

dry cleaners, escapes

SPRING HILL _ A man with a dark-handled chrome pistol robbed Cardinal Cleaners, 11068 Spring Hill Drive, at 12:19 p.m. Saturday, according to a Hernando County sheriff's report. The man ordered the clerk to place money from the cash register into a white canvas bag and flashed the gun tucked into his waistband. No one was hurt. The man left the store with $150 and ran north through the parking lot toward the back of the plaza. This marks the second robbery of a dry cleaners in a month, though deputies do not think the two are related.
