Dozens of children teamed up last week to tax their brains by solving problems at the 1998 Citrus County District Math Field Day.
The high school teams met Friday at the Homosassa Elks Club. The middle and elementary school event was Saturday at Crystal River Middle School. Participants had won school level competitions.
Some elementary school students participated in a more hands-on competition at the Crystal River Mall.
Fourth-graders built newspaper towers, and fifth-graders had to design cushioned packaging to prevent eggs from breaking when dropped from increasing heights.
This year's Math Field Days were sponsored by the Citrus County School Board, NationsBank through the Citrus County Education Foundation, Educators of Mathematics in Citrus County and the Crystal River Mall.
A list of all students who placed first through fourth will appear in a future edition of Citrus Times.
