ATHLETIC DIRECTOR: Phil Hayford.

TEAM STATE TITLES: Baseball _ 1984 (A); 1989 (A).

FAMOUS FORMER ATHLETES: Brett Hayford (Class of 1989, Davidson football assistant); Alyn Towne ('89, Olympic Trials swimmer); Aila Winkler ('87, tennis All-American).

NOTABLE: Shorecrest has been open since 1923 but the first high school graduating class was in 1976. The football program was successful from the start, going 10-3 in its first season on its way to the 1975 Class A state final, where it lost 28-0 to Greensboro. Jack Pribyl started the program and took the team to the final again in '76, losing 38-0 to Tallahassee FAMU. Hayford took over in 1980 and is Pinellas County's third all-time winningest football coach with 128 victories. He could pass Clearwater's Earle Brown (130) next fall... Kathy Sessions' volleyball team went to the state final in 1995 ... The stadium is named Haskell Field in 1986 to honor retiring headmaster Bruce Haskell.
