Four charged in molestation of 12-year-old

Four Dade City people have been arrested in connection with the molestation of a 12-year-old girl, police say.

Asa Wayne McCabe, 33, of 16th Street, is accused of molesting the girl for the past seven years, since she was 5 years old. He also is accused of molesting a 14-year-old girl, an acquaintance of the first girl, sometime in January. McCabe was charged with multiple counts of capital sexual battery in the first case and one count of sexual battery in the second. He was held in county jail Tuesday without bail.

Michael Brian Spooner, 17, of Rose Avenue, was charged with one count of sexual battery Monday for having sex with the 12-year-old girl from October 1997 to March 1998, according to a Sheriff's Office report. He was booked and handed over to juvenile authorities.

Tammy Lynn Baker, 19, of Willingham Drive, is accused of performing sex acts on the same girl three times since February, according to the report. She was charged with three counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child and was being held in the county jail.

Also, a 33-year-old woman was taken to the county jail Saturday on child neglect charges relating to the case. Her name is being withheld by the Times.

All the suspects admitted to the crimes, according to the reports.

Driver arrested two days after chase, charged with assault

ZEPHYRHILLS _ A Brooksville man whose vehicle was sighted without headlights on the runway of Zephyrhills Municipal Airport escaped police in a chase Saturday night but was captured Monday, according to a police report.

An officer saw Alonzo Norton, of 385 Union St., driving on the runway about 11 p.m. Saturday, according to the report.

When the officer stopped Norton, 24, in a residential area and walked toward his vehicle, Norton speeded toward the officer and forced him to dive into his squad car to escape injury, according to the report.

Norton drove off, slammed into a fence and mailbox, and then stopped abruptly on Kennedy Avenue and ran, according to the report.

He was arrested Monday at a store on Gall Boulevard in Zephyrhills.

Norton was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude and other charges. He was being held without bail Tuesday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes.
