Awards

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory T. Miller, son of Jerry L. Miller of Gulfport, received the Battle Efficiency Ribbon while on a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Cole. Each crew member received a ribbon signifying his contribution. The Battle Efficiency Award is given annually by the commander in chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, to ships that exhibit outstanding combat readiness. Miller is a 1974 graduate of Winter Haven High School.

Completion of training

Navy Seaman Recruit Cynthia L. Fetzer, daughter of Dianna L. Fetzer of St. Petersburg, has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. She is a 1994 graduate of St. Petersburg High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Kimberly A. Little, a 1993 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School, has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Marine Pvt. Christopher T. Hitchcox, son of Troy E. and Deborah Hitchcox, has completed basic military training at Parris Island Marine Recruit Depot at Parris Island, S.C. Hitchcox attended Northeast High School in 1996 and St. Petersburg Junior College in 1997. He was assigned to Camp Geiger, N.C., for additional artillery training.

Navy Seaman Recruit John P. Stickney, son of Patrick D. and Victoria A. Stickney of St. Petersburg, has completed basic military training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 1993 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.

Graduations

Navy Seaman Paul G. Craig, son of Roxy A. Craig of St. Petersburg, has graduated from Basic Strategic Weapons School at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn. He will begin advanced submarine weapons school for more training before being assigned to a Navy submarine. Craig is a 1997 graduate of Gibbs High School.

Deployments and Assignments

Navy Lt. Bobby J. Bray, son of Judith E. Bray of St. Petersburg, has completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 11, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington. Bray is a 1985 graduate of Seminole High School, a 1987 graduate of St. Petersburg Junior College, and a 1991 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.

Marine Lance Cpl. Dallas E. Chestine, son of Vernon D. and Vicki S. Chestine of St. Petersburg, has completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked aboard the ships of the USS Guam Amphibious Ready Group. Chestine is a 1994 graduate of Northeast High School.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jeremy W. Downey, son of Mark and Roxanne Nothenagel of St. Petersburg, participated in Exercise Dynamic Response while on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked aboard ships of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.

Naval Petty Officer 3rd Class Alan O. Davenport, son of Gary and Sandra Williams of St. Petersburg, participated in Exercise Dynamic Response while on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea aboard the dock landing ship USS Portland, based in Little Creek, Va. Davenport is a 1993 graduate of St. Petersburg High School.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathaniel A. Livaccari, son of Andy J. and Judy K. Livaccari of St. Petersburg, has returned to his home port of Norfolk, Va., after a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Guam, the lead ship of the USS Guam Amphibious Ready Group. It is the final deployment of the ship, which is scheduled to be decommissioned this year.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Glen Rubin, son of Michael and Patricia Rubin of South Pasadena, has been transferred from the Seal Delivery Team Submarine Kamehameha, based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to the Naval Coastal Systems Dive School in Panama City where he will be a diving instructor. Rubin, his wife, Jodi, and two sons will live in Panama City.
