Popular swim class set for May

The Kiwanis Club of Seminole again is offering its popular, free, award-winning swim program called "Every Child a Swimmer." This year's program is May 4-28.

It is designed for youngsters in kindergarten through fifth grade who don't know how to swim.

You must sign up in person. Registration will be for only one hour: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion Post 252 swimming pool, 11433 Park Blvd., Seminole. It's behind the Albertson's supermarket.

There may be a second class, depending upon how many youngsters sign up.

Classes will be at the American Legion pool, beginning at 5 p.m. May 4. They will meet every Monday through Thursday through May 28.

Each child will be evaluated by Mary Champney, a certified instructor, who directs the program.

After that, children will be assigned to a certain group of students. As they advance, they will be re-evaluated.

Champney will get help from volunteers from the Kiwanis Club, the St. Petersburg Junior College Circle K Club, the Seminole High School Key Club and friends of Kiwanis.

In 1996, the Seminole Kiwanis won first place among Florida Kiwanis Clubs for its "Every Child a Swimmer" program. The Seminole program is in its 14th year. For more information, call Bob Sims at 392-2422.
