Gunfire injures three outside bar

Three men were shot early Wednesday when a gunman opened fire in a bar's parking lot.

Witnesses told police that a man started firing a handgun into a crowd just after 1:30 a.m. outside the Backstage Lounge, 1801 34th St. S.

The reason for the gunfire was unknown. Police were looking for a suspect but had not made an arrest Wednesday.

The three victims' gunshot wounds were not life threatening. They were all admitted to Bayfront Medical Center, where they were listed in fair condition Wednesday night.

Corey Humphrey, 18, of 3487 Queenshore Ave. S, was shot in the left elbow. Cleveland Williams, 27, of 2301 Grove St. S, was shot in the left ankle. Carter Fillyau, 28, of 2366 Seventh Ave. S, was shot in the left knee.

Fillyau is the grandson of St. Petersburg City Council member Ernest Fillyau.

Kmart robber escapes with $900

ST. PETERSBURG _ Police on Wednesday were searching for man who robbed a Kmart at gunpoint.

About 9:53 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect, described as white and in his late 30s, approached a cashier at the store at 9500 Dr. M.L. King (Ninth) St. N, police said. It appeared he was ready to buy automotive and food items.

Instead, police said, he flashed a gun that was tucked in his waistband and demanded money. No one was injured, but Kmart reported to police that $900 was stolen.
