Charlotte hammers Devil Rays

The Charlotte Rangers hit two homers among their 12 hits in drubbing St. Petersburg 11-1 Thursday night.

Charlotte's Kelly Dranfeldt went 2-for-5, homered, scored twice and drove in two. Designated hitter Rowan Richardson homered in the Rangers' five-run fifth inning, as Charlotte sent 10 batters to the plate. The Devil Rays committed three errors.

Rays pitchers finished with nine strikeouts and six walks.

CLEARWATER 6, SARASOTA 4: The Phillies' Skip Kiil went 3-for-4 with a home run, scored twice and drove in two to lead host Clearwater. Right fielder Todd Crane and second baseman Brian Harris each scored twice, and Gary Burnham tripled and drove in the Phillies' first run.
