Florida lawmakers agreed Thursday to name the Florida Turnpike for former President Ronald Reagan. The measure now goes to Gov. Lawton Chiles, a Democrat who served in the U.S. Senate during the Republican's presidency. Chiles has said he will not oppose the bill.
The House voted 91-21 Thursday to approve that and other name changes to public facilities in Florida. The Senate approved the measure Tuesday, amid Republican cheers.
The bill also renames State Road 50 in Hernando County the Deputy Lonnie Coburn Memorial Highway, after a deputy who was murdered in 1978.
