Chastity Bono will be the guest grand marshal for a parade during this summer's PrideFest, Tampa Bay's annual gay and lesbian celebration.
Bono, the daughter of Cher and the late U.S. Rep. Sonny Bono, will lead the PrideParade from Gaslight Park to the Convention Center in downtown Tampa on July 4. She will speak to the crowd before and after the march.
Bono came out as a lesbian in the April 1995 issue of The Advocate magazine. Since then, she has worked as a consultant on the television series Ellen and as the entertainment media director of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
PrideFest, an annual celebration of gay and lesbian pride and achievement, has drawn thousands of visitors to downtown Tampa over the past few years.
PrideFest festivities will officially open after the parade. Comedians Bob Smith and Georgia Ragsdale, disco queen Thelma Houston and various speakers will provide entertainment .
