The Tarpon Springs Cultural Center, 101 S Pinellas Ave., is hosting "Kimono Inspirations," an exhibition of quilts and "wearable art" by June Colburn this month.
A reception for the artist will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the center.
The artist is a former librarian from Minnesota who spent time in Japan teaching languages at colleges there.
Colburn became fascinated with the designs and colors of discarded kimono silks. She began recycling the garments into wearable art for herself.
Then she began creating pillows, quilts, wall hangings and other interior design items. Now she makes artwork and teaches others.
The exhibit is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday until June 1. Admission is free.
