Israel strikes coins for 50th anniversary

Israel will strike two gold coins as part of its observance of the nation's 50th anniversary. The proof coins, struck in .999 fine gold, will bear 10- and 20-shekel denominations.

Two silver commemoratives will also be struck as part of the anniversary observance. Designed by Asher Kalderon, the coin bears the nation's flag and a burst of stars. The gold coins will sell for $799 for the 1-ounce coin and $428 for the half-ounce piece. The 2-shekel silver proof will cost $42; the uncirculated 1 shekel, $25.
