Miami, one pitch from a no-hitter, beats FSU 7-1

Alex Santos pitched a complete-game one-hitter to lead Miami (40-15) to a 7-1 victory over Florida State on Friday.

Santos (11-1) had a no-hitter through 8 innings before Brian Cox drove a 2-and-2 curveball over the rightfield fence to give Florida State (40-15) its only hit.

Florida State starter Wes Crawford (6-3) gave up six runs and seven hits and struck out seven in six innings for the loss.

CINCINNATI 7, USF 5: Visiting South Florida squandered 4-1 and 5-3 leads. Bearcats catcher Matt Bechtol singled to centerfield, scoring two with two outs in the fifth inning to tie the score at 5. Cincinnati took the lead in the sixth when leftfielder Matt Singer hit a two-run homer. Daniel Boyd led USF (19-31, 7-15 Conference USA) with two homers and three RBI. With the loss, Paul Giambalvo dropped to 4-3. Cincinnati's Tony Cento (7-4) gave up five runs and struck out eight in 8 innings. James Steele earned his fifth save for the Bearcats (13-31, 4-15) by striking out the only batter he faced, with runners on first and third.

FLORIDA 7, ARKANSAS 6: Rightfielder Derek Nicholson threw out Mark Burnett at the plate to end the game for visiting Florida. Florida's Casey Smith was 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Burnett was 2-for-3 with two RBI, including a home run. Michael Gray pitched two-thirds of an inning for the win.
