Completion of training
Navy Seaman Jason C. Wallace, a 1989 graduate of East Lake High School, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He also is the recipient of the United States Organization Award which is presented to the recruit who best exemplifies the spirit and intent of the term "shipmate."
Marine Staff Sgt. Travis A. Jones, son of Henry and Darlene Jones of Clearwater, has completed the non-commissioned officer leadership course at Marine Corps Recruiting Station, New Cumberland, Pa.
Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick Sandvik, a 1996 graduate of Tarpon Springs High School, recently graduated from the test measurement and diagnostic equipment course at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. He is the son of Thomas and Mary Sandvik of Tarpon Springs.
Michael Hayden, a 1997 graduate of Tarpon Springs High School, was promoted to the rank of Marine private first class while serving with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Hayden was promoted for superior job performance and proficiency. He is the son of Michael and Regina Hayden of Tarpon Springs.
Maria R. Mayer, a 1985 graduate of Osceola High School, was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Coast Guard petty officer while serving aboard USCG Cutter Bridle, which has a homeport at Southwest Harbor, Maine. Mayer joined the Coast Guard in 1986.
Marine Sgt. Scott J. Shekey, a 1997 graduate of Osceola High School, received a Meritorious Mast for superior individual performance while assigned at Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Minneapolis.
Shekey also received a certificate of commendation for displaying superior knowledge and initiative and was recognized for going above and beyond regular duties to complete projects.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bruce A. Clifford, a 1983 graduate of Tarpon Springs High School, received the Battle Efficiency Ribbon while on a six-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Cole. He is the son of Kerry J. and Billie-Jo Clifford of Palm Harbor.
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Timothy M. Green, a 1978 graduate of Clearwater High School, received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding accomplishments while serving as a command career counselor. Green is stationed at Whiting Field, Milton. He is the son of Lawrence and Grace Green of Clearwater.
Senior Airman John R. Maye of East Lake received the Airman of the Year Award at a Feb. 20 banquet at MacDill Air Force Base. Maye is a member of the Air Force Reserves 290th Joint Communications Support Squadron.
Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Kevin H. Licursi, a 1977 graduate of Dunedin High School, received the Battle Efficiency Ribbon while on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the USS Carney. The award is presented annually to ships that exhibit outstanding combat readiness. Licursi is the son of Angelo and Barbara Licursi of Dunedin.
