Fatigue took its toll on Tampa Bay Tech's Brandon Wagner in Saturday's overall state tennis championship match for Class 6A.
Wagner had defeated the No. 1-ranked player in the state for the individual state championship on Friday, and he had fought his way through two doubles matches with teammate Ketan Patel also in the same day.
It showed as he lost the overall final to team No. 1 singles champion Dustin Friedman of Boca Raton Olympic Heights 6-2, 6-3. Wagner repeatedly said it was "not my day" on the court while playing Friedman.
"I didn't have a lot of energy, I was feeling a lot of soreness in my arm," Wagner said. "The other guy played real good, though."
Boca Raton Spanish River's Erica Biro captured the girls overall championship with a victory over Miami Sunset's Joanne Maasongsong 6-2, 6-2.
