A bench-clearing brawl among players, parents and coaches at a Little League baseball game sent one player to the hospital and injured two others.
The Braves and Yankees, senior division teams for 14 and 15 year olds, were playing at Vann Park in Deltona, northeast of Orlando, when the scuffle broke out in right field about noon Saturday.
Witnesses said the Yankees were at bat in the sixth inning when a pitcher for the Braves exchanged words with a Yankees runner on first base. Accounts vary on who charged whom, but a fight began.
Three Volusia County sheriff's deputies responded, and at least one deputy spent the rest of the day trying to interview witnesses and sort out stories.
Witnesses said one player was hit in the back with a wooden baseball bat.
League officials will meet this week to discuss possible disciplinary actions against players, parents or coaches who violated league rules.
"This is terrible, just really unfortunate," league president Bob Patterson said Saturday. "There is no room for this whatsoever."
