MARLINS 1, PADRES 0: Rookie Jesus Sanchez got his first career win, combining with two relievers on a five-hitter as Florida earned a split of the four-game series.
Sanchez, acquired from the Mets during the off-season as part of the Al Leiter trade, made his third career start and allowed four hits in six innings.
"He pitched a heck of a game and we stunk it up," Padres outfielder Greg Vaughn said.
In his previous two starts, both against Colorado, Sanchez failed to last past the sixth.
He hadn't pitched above Double-A before this season.
"Sanchez is a young guy. He is going to have his ups and downs. But he knows what he is doing out there," Marlins manager Jim Leyland said. "He's acquired poise as we've gone along."
