Qualifying begins today for Congressional races

Published Sep. 13, 2005

Florida's candidates for Congress will start qualifying for the ballot at noon today. All 23 of the U.S. House seats are up for election this fall. There are now 16 Republicans and seven Democrats from Florida in the U.S. House, and it appears many of them may be re-elected without opposition.

Floridians also will elect a U.S. senator. Democrat Bob Graham is running for re-election against Republican state Sen. Charlie Crist of St. Petersburg. Candidates file in Tallahassee, and qualifying will end at noon Friday.
