Maher seeks post as FHSAA chief

Tom Maher, the assistant superintendent fired by Superintendent Pete Kelly last Wednesday, has applied to take over the agency that governs Florida high school athletics. Maher is one of 21 people who have applied to be commissioner of the Florida High School Activities Association. FHSAA Commissioner Ron Davis resigned in January, effective at the end of the year. The FHSAA board of directors plans to select his replacement in June.

Couple corrects military mix-up

DUNNELLON _ Frank Malinski is alive, well _ and paid. Last month, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs told Malinski's wife, Wanda, that her husband had died. The government wanted Wanda Malinski to return any benefits she had received after her husband's death. The Malinskis corrected the error, but feared the mix-up would delay their May check. But Wanda Malinski called the Citrus Times on Friday to say the money arrived.
