Published Sep. 13, 2005

A check-out clerk and her husband are accused of stealing $8,500 worth of Wal-Mart merchandise during the past five months. Mary Ann Rojas, 31, and Miguel W. Rojas, 40, both of 4645 Chamber Street, Brooksville, were arrested Monday and face retail theft charges, according to Hernando County sheriff's reports. Mrs. Rojas had on several occasions checked out merchandise such as color televisions, compact disc players, video games and clothes for her husband without him paying, the report said. The loss prevention officer at the Wal-Mart on Cortez Boulevard suspected an employee was stealing and on Monday observed Mrs. Rojas ringing items through the register and then voiding them, the report said. The loss prevention officer called the Sheriff's Office. The Rojases were booked into Hernando County jail.
