A restaurant manager shot a 17-year-old in the stomach Monday night while the teenager was trying to rob Bruno's Pizza Pie restaurant, police said.
The teen, who told Tampa police his name was Quenten Roberts, was in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital late Monday, police said.
Roberts walked into the store at 3025 E Busch Blvd. about 10:15 p.m., pointed a gun at a clerk and demanded money from the cash register, police said. The manager in the back heard the commotion, grabbed a gun and fired one shot at Roberts, police said.
Roberts ran out of the store and collapsed in a lot behind the restaurant, police said.
A man who police said was likely an accomplice posing as a customer during the robbery ran out and tried to dispose of the gun, police said. Authorities arrived in time to hold him for questioning, and charges were pending, police said. His name was not released late Monday.
Police said they recovered the .22-caliber gun.
