TELEVISION Q&A

Question: I always wondered what happened between Joan Fontaine and her sister, Olivia DeHavilland. Do you know what happened and if they're speaking today?

Answer: I don't really know what happened between them, and no, they're not speaking today. However, I do know that when Olivia DeHavilland's son died, Joan wrote her a beautiful letter expressing her sorrow and wishing they could speak again. I also know that Miss DeHavilland never acknowledged the letter. So, draw your own conclusions.

Question: When did the Motion Picture Academy abandon the phrase, "... and the winner is"?

Answer: The change to "...and the Oscar goes to" was made in 1988 for the 61st annual Academy Awards presentation. However, the words, "... and the winner is" were still used for the presentation of the animations award that year since the change was made after the voice-overs for the animated presenters had been recorded.
