Would-be thief claims to be . . . Santa

Santa Claus normally makes his way down chimneys in December. But a man claiming to be the jolly old elf tried to come in through a Spring Hill woman's window Saturday. Gudelia Robles, 58, of Spring Hill, heard something banging on her window about 2 a.m., according to a Hernando County sheriff's report. She raised her vertical blinds and saw a man trying to come in. She asked who he was. He replied, "Santa Claus." When Gudelia told the man she was going to call 911, he backed out of the window and ran southeast, where he met two friends. They drove off in a van along Hawthorne Road. Gudelia told deputies that it was too dark to get a good description of the intruder. Authorities ask anyone with information about this attempted burglary to call the Sheriff's Office at 754-6830 or the anonymous tip line at 797-TIPS.
