BAKERIES PICK COKE: Coca-Cola Co. has secured the right to sell its soft drinks at more than 5,000 independent bakeries across the country, its latest move to lead the fight for soft-drink supremacy at restaurants and retailers. Under the agreement with the Retailer's Bakery Association, of Laurel, Md., Coke will provide merchandising and marketing support in return for the bakeries' selling only its soft drinks. Coke is battling with rival PepsiCo Inc. over exclusivity at sports venues, restaurants and other sites. On April 24, Ruby Tuesday Inc. switched to Coca-Cola products from Pepsi's at its 440 restaurants, while fried-chicken chain Bojangles Restaurants Inc. switched to Pepsi from Coke.
