A pilot program to sell solid waste disposal passes to residential customers who use the Citrus County Central Landfill was approved by the Citrus County Commission.
The program is an attempt to reduce waiting time in the entrance line to the scale house for customers disposing of residential solid waste. Customers who purchase the pass would use the bypass lanes at the scale house.
The passes are available for $10 and are valid through Sept. 30 to customers who bring five or fewer bags or cans of residential solid waste per week to the landfill.
Passes may by purchased in the landfill office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays or 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 11. Pass purchasers will be required to sign an agreement detailing the program rules. Proof of residency, which includes a tax bill or utility bill, will be required if the purchaser's driver's license does not show a local address.
The Central Landfill office will be closed today and the landfill site will be closed Saturday in observance of Independence Day. For information, call the Division of Solid Waste Management at 746-5000.
