Family patriarch, son, grandson share birthday

December is a month of special celebrations for the Skaggs family.

Frank Skaggs, a resident of Whispering Pines in New Port Richey, turned 100 Dec. 28, his son George turned 56 and a great-grandson, Brian Menges, of San Leandro, Calif., celebrated his 18th birthday on the same day.

Frank Skaggs was honored at a party at Whispering Pines given by his daughter, Opal Chamberlin of New Port Richey. The affair brought four generations of the Skaggs family together.

His other children are a son, Franklin of Crystal River and daughters Mary Weddle of Paris Crossing, Ind., and Louise Baker of Old Town. In all, there are 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. His son Bill is deceased.

Frank Skaggs was born Dec. 28, 1898, in Elizabethtown, Ky. He and Mamie Opal King were married Dec. 23, 1923, in North Vernon, Ind. He was a steel worker in Newport, Ky. Skaggs was widowed eight years ago. He lived with his daughter Opal Chamberlin in New Port Richey before taking up residence in the nursing center.

He enjoys True Detective stories and sometimes watches the news on television.

Festival of Lights

winners named

The Citizens Association of Port Richey Inc. has announced winners of the third annual Festival of Lights.

The $50 grand prize went to Gary and Annette Kempf. Honorable mentions including a one-year paid membership went to John Ferdinand, Al Foley, the Tylers, William Montgomery and Jeffrey Nichols.
