Hours of searching turned up a missing man's 23-foot Mako outboard fishing boat Thursday, but no sign of the owner, Coast Guard officials said.
Searchers continued looking for the man who left Belleair. The man, whose identity was not released by the Coast Guard, was reported overdue by his brother when he did not return as scheduled.
The Coast Guard launched a 41-foot utility boat and an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to search for the boat.
"Once the helicopter took off, within 19 minutes they found the boat," said Petty Officer Harry Craft. "We're still searching for the man now."
The empty boat, named Greenback, was found about 20 miles southwest of Clearwater.
Coast Guard officials planned to resume the search at sunrise today.
