A pilot landed a small plane on a highway Thursday after its engine failed on the approach to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Neither the pilot, Rodney Dale Farlee, 46, nor his wife, Wendy Goldberg, 45, of Wilmington, Del., were injured after the plane avoided power lines and went down on the westbound lane of State Road 84 just west of Interstate 95 shortly after 5 p.m.
"What stopped him was the center guardrail," said Davie police spokesman Lt. Gary Killam. "That's where the plane came to final rest."
The couple's dog, Faith, also was on the 1968 single-engine Cessna 177.
