Virginia church helps save Cuban baby

An 8-week-old Cuban boy underwent surgery to fix his heart after a Virginia church raised money for him to come to the United States.

Daniel Alejandro Cuella Santana was born in Cardenas, Cuba, with a genetic defect in which the left ventricle is too small or too weak.

Daniel successfully underwent surgery Tuesday at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. His aorta was reconstructed to improve circulation.

Freemason Street Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va. _ the American sister church of Miriela Santana's church in Cuba _ heard about Daniel after they received a fax from the Cuban church. The Virginia congregation found a doctor and raised $25,000 for medical costs. Miriela Santana is the child's mother.
