ADOPT-A-PET

Bitsy is a 4-month-old female, tiger and torti domestic shorthair. Jake is an 18-month-old neutered male, liver and white English pointer. The total number of animals adopted at the Citrus County Animal Shelter in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 was 1,013, owner claims were 567 and euthanasias were 5,230. Since Oct. 1, 231 have been adopted, 14 during the week of Dec. 24 through Dec. 30. That week, there were 33 euthanasias. The shelter has a large number of older animals, as well as puppies and kittens, available for adoption. The shelter is at the end of Airport Road in Inverness. Shelter adoption and claim hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For information, call 726-7660.
