Electricity cut in rescue effort

A Tampa man who police say had been drinking all day climbed a Tampa Electric Co. power transfer station Friday night, causing a temporary power outage in the area around 15th and Yukon streets. Johnny Bailey, 29, was not injured in the incident, which occurred after he argued with family members and left their house on Eskimo Avenue on foot. When he got to the transfer station, he climbed the fence and then began climbing the highly charged structure. When officials from TECO, Tampa Fire Rescue and Tampa police got to the scene, they cut the power to the station to keep Bailey from electrocuting himself. It took 45 minutes to talk Bailey into climbing down from the transfer station, leaving a small area of the city in the dark for the duration. Bailey was taken to University Community Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
