Once, twice, 3 times, a baby

The third time was the charm for Citrus County's first baby of the new year.

Conner Joshua Keen was born at 1:10 p.m. on New Year's Day to Amanda and Todd Keen of Homosassa. The delivery took place at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River.

"This was our third trip to the hospital this week," said Todd Keen. "They sent us back home the other two times because even though she was having contractions, basically nothing was happening."

But on Friday morning, Amanda's labor pains were for real, and young Conner came into the world weighing about 8 pounds. Both parents agree he looks a lot like his mother.

It's not every baby that gets treated like a celebrity by the news media, and Conner was awakened from a nap to pose for pictures with the proud parents. He cried a little, but his mother was able to calm him quickly. The baby has light brown hair and a ruddy complexion.

"This is a totally new experience," said Amanda Keen. "He's so sweet."

The boy is the couple's first child. They were married in May.

Todd Keen, 29, works as a security guard at the Florida Power nuclear plant in Crystal River. Amanda Keen, 21, plans to stay at home and take care of the house and the baby. She is a native of Citrus County.

Conner was delivered by Dr. Alan Hedges, an obstetrician at Meadowcrest Women's Center in Crystal River.
