Victory before the battle

Photojournalists snap thousands of pictures each year. Steve Hasel, Ron Thompson and Michael Weimar of the Citrus Times share their favorites from 1998.

I think this photo of Crystal River High School graduate Ronan Eckelberry raising his hands in triumph contrasted with the clouds of a storm blowing in sums up the graduation experience: a moment of victory, followed closely by more battles to be fought as life goes on. Heavy clouds began rolling in during the May ceremony, and names were called in quick succession in an effort to beat the rain. Just as the final graduate crossed the platform, the skies opened up and the crowd ran for cover.

Timeless

ride

In the hustle and bustle of the modern world, it is refreshing to see that some things never change. The joy of a child on a ride at a county fair is one of those things. This photograph of Bobby Handley, 5, at the Citrus County Fair in March could be from 1948 as easily as 1998. Capturing such a moment is magical in the days of the Internet and routine spaceflight.
