Devil Rays roll past Miracle

The Devil Rays scored in each of the first five innings en route to beating the Fort Myers Miracle 7-2 on Tuesday night.

Tony Pigott was 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored for St. Petersburg. Brandon Backe was 1-for-2 with two sacrifice flys.

TAMPA 8, CLEARWATER 4 (13): Marcus Thames doubled to left-centerfield in the 13th to drive in the tiebreaking runs for the visiting Yankees. Thames and John Rodriguez scored on Juan Rivera's single to give Tampa an 8-4 lead.

DUNEDIN 5, CHARLOTTE 4: Cesar Izturis doubled in two runs in the eighth, and reliever Bob File struck out the final two batters in the ninth for the host Blue Jays. Izturis' double was his second of the night. He went 3-for-5 and scored a run. File earned his 20th save.
