Children are taking a course in nature this month at the Nature Day Camp at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills. Kids ages 8-15 participate in nature walks to learn about ecological issues and also play games, fish and go on field trips. The camp continues through Aug. 13 and costs $5 per day or $25 per week. Sign up at Pavilion No. 2.
Brothers Travis Hamilton, 9, and Zachary Hamilton, 7, look for frogs and fish at the edge of a pond Tuesday at Crews Lake Park during the Nature Day Camp. Fishing, hiking and other activities are also offered through Aug. 13.
Campers gather around to look at pieces of a tree that was struck by lightning at Crews Lake Park. A counselor tells the children how to read the rings of the pieces to learn the tree's age.
Tonya Bronson, 10, looks at a flower that another child picked from the water during Nature Day Camp at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills. The camp is sponsored by the Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department and is available for kids ages 8-15 through Aug. 13.
