FRESH FACES

A daily look at first-year Bucs

WHO: Jason Freeman. HT/WT: 6-3, 249.

COLLEGE: Oklahoma. POSITION: Tight end.

CAREER HIGHLIGHT: Freeman spent the bulk of his college career playing behind Redskins TE Stephen Alexander. But as a sophomore, he filled in for an injured Alexander and had 13 catches for 137 yards. Last year Freeman had 10 catches for 155 yards for the Sooners.

BRUSH WITH GREATNESS: Freeman's father coached ex-Steelers great Jon Kolb while an assistant at Oklahoma State. The Freemans were guests of Kolb at several Athletes In Action camps and met many Steelers, including Tony Dungy, Hardy Nickerson and Terry Bradshaw.

TO MAKE THE TEAM: The Bucs had three tight ends on the roster last year _ Dave Moore, Patrick Hape and John Davis _ and the trio returns. Still, a big performance could shake things up behind Moore, the starter. Freeman has to prove he can catch.

QUOTE: "I've just got to go out there and do what I did to get here. I think I belong in this league and if it's not here, if I don't make it, I think I'll end up somewhere where I can play."
