A woman was arrested early Thursday after residents of her Clearwater apartment complex found her 2-year-old daughter wandering outside unsupervised. The girl was not injured, but she and her 7-year-old brother, who police said was also left alone for several hours, were put into custody of relatives. Verteza L. Brown, 23, of 2057 Kings Highway was arrested and charged with child neglect. She was being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $5,000. Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor said officers were called to the Regency apartment complex at 1:15 a.m. by residents who had found Brown's daughter walking in the complex at midnight. Shelor said the residents tried to find the child's mother for more than an hour before calling police. Officers found the apartment and discovered Brown's son was left alone. According to Shelor, the girl left the apartment while her brother was asleep. When Brown returned home, she was arrested. She told officers she had been to a local club.
