A 48-year-old woman is accused of hitting a 10-year-old girl in the face with a telephone. Mary K. Fredryk of 6830 Mango Ave. in St. Petersburg turned herself in Wednesday and faces one count of child abuse, according to a Hernando County sheriff's report. The incident happened about 4 p.m. July 12 at 6019 Spring Lake Highway southeast of Brooksville. The 10-year-old was trying to call Fredryk's mother when Fredryk became angry and used the phone to hit the girl in the face, the report said. The girl's cheek was red and a bruise was forming, the report said. Authorities did not release the girl's name. Fredryk was taken to the Hernando County Jail and released Wednesday on $2,000 bail.
Cobb Road widening may shut off water again today
BROOKSVILLE _ Work on widening Cobb Road caused some residents to be without water for several hours Thursday. Brooksville Public Works Department officials said water may have been turned off from 1 to 4 p.m. for residents of Lee Avenue, Morningside Drive, Shadyside Drive and Cobb Road (Mountain Park).
