MURRAY'S CHALLENGE: Orioles bench coach Eddie Murray, who will get his first taste of managing this autumn with the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League, might find managing to be a difficult proposition, Orioles managers Ray Miller said.
"Eddie's two biggest problems would be No. 1, umpiring. Talking to them," Miller said. "And having to deal somewhat with the press."
Murray rarely grants interviews, and a major-league manager must speak to the media least twice daily. But that's only a small part of the job description.
"When you manage, especially at the major-league level, you're selling tickets," Miller said. "There are budgets you have to be aware of, and nobody wants to hire somebody who sits here and is too critical of his players and runs people away. You're always getting pushed to be positive but be aggressive."
