Published Sep. 29, 2005

Longtime prosecutor Denise Pomponio has been appointed as the newest judge on the Hillsborough County bench.

Pomponio, a Hillsborough assistant state attorney for 13 years who is currently prosecuting arson and domestic violence cases, said she got the call from Tallahassee late Thursday.

"I'm just ecstatic about having the honor of being able to serve the community," said Pomponio, 41, who previously ran for the county bench in 1990.

County judges hear misdemeanor, traffic and lesser civil cases.
