WHO: Pat Bonner HT/WT: 6-1, 205
COLLEGE: Florida A&M POSITION: Quarterback
GLORY DAYS: It had to be one of the most prolific years in the history of Division I-AA and Bonner's name is written all over it. After arriving as a senior transfer from Temple, Bonner became the starting quarterback in the fourth game of the season and ended up the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year. At the helm of coach Billy Joe's Gulf Coast Offense, Bonner completed 329 of 532 passes for 4,148 yards and 42 touchdowns in 13 games.
BRUSH WITH GREATNESS: It was last year and Bonner's cousin, Albert Connell, was a reserve wide receiver for the Redskins. Connell invited Bonner to go out and he met Redskins RB Terry Allen. "Yeah, all those guys were pulling up in a bunch of limos and stuff like that. It was real."
TO MAKE THE TEAM: Bonner is playing for a spot on the practice squad. Clearly the fourth man in the rotation behind starter Trent Dilfer, backup Eric Zeier and second-round draft pick Shaun King, Bonner must be consistent every time he gets to throw and has to show the kind of arm strength needed for NFL duties. He must make the best of every mop-up snap in preseason.
QUOTE: "I can't afford to worry about the other (three) guys. I can only worry about myself. In a way, I've got nothing to lose because there are no expectations on me, it's all on them. All I have to do is work hard."
