The menus are different, but still, a barbecue restaurant moving in on a chicken restaurant would seem to be competition. Not so, according to Chick-Fil-A on Fourth Street N.
When Fred's Famous Barbecue opened its doors July 29 two doors down, Chick-Fil-A decided to deliver an official welcome. "Welcome Fred's Famous Barbecue," the marquee of the chicken shop said.
"We just wanted to make them feel welcome," said night manager Matt Howe.
The idea worked. Brian Storman, president of Fred's Famous Barebecue, said his crew thought the public welcome was special. He doesn't see any competition between the two eateries.
"The more restaurants we can put in a concentrated area, the more people we can draw," said Storman.
