Gulfport Produce

roadside sales denied

GULFPORT _ Gulfport Produce no longer can sell fruits and vegetables on Beach Boulevard S.

City Council members, sitting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, Tuesday denied Gulfport Produce's request to sell fresh produce in front of 3054 and 3056 Beach Blvd. S. But members said they would consider allowing owner Tivo Sesante to reapply later.

The company had asked for a permit to sell produce from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays.

But council members said they were concerned Sesante had been selling produce without city permission and in unsanitary conditions.

Council member John Phillips said he had seen rats before in the area. City Manager Bob Lee said "unsightly products have been stored on the subject property."
