A woman has been charged with child neglect after her 5-year-old daughter was found asleep in her Ford van Saturday while she and her other children shopped at Wal-Mart.
Sgt. Ken Albano of the Plant City Police Department said firefighters were called to the Wal-Mart at 2602 S James Redmond Parkway about 2:45 p.m. They opened the door and gave the girl some water. She did not require hospitalization.
Her mother, Nicolasa Ramos, 45, of the 700 block of MacIntosh Road, told them she had been in the store about 45 minutes.
Albano said the state Department of Children and Family Services took the Ramos children into its custody. No information was available on the girl's name or the other children.
