Saul Martinez scored his first two Major League Soccer goals as the Miami Fusion won its first game since losing top scorer Diego Serna, beating the New York-New Jersey MetroStars 2-0 Saturday night.
The MetroStars suffered their fourth consecutive shutout and have gone 366 minutes since scoring, an MLS record. Their last goal came in a 3-2 loss to New England on July
Martinez scored in the opening minute of the second half and again 10 minutes later to become the first Fusion player this year to score more than once in a game.
Nelson Vargas and Welton had two assists and Garth Lagerwey made four saves to notch his third shutout.
Miami won for the fifth time in its past six games and moved past Tampa Bay and into third place in the East.
