Northwest county put in dark by power failure

An estimated 35,000 west Pasco customers of Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative were in the dark for 2{ hours Friday night after a Florida Power transmission line failed, a WREC spokesman said.

The power failure lasted from 8:01 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., said Ernie Holzhauer, the WREC spokesman.

It encompassed all of Pasco west of Interstate 75 and north of Port Richey, Holzhauer said.

Two boys charged

with arson, burglary

ZEPHYRHILLS _ Two Zephyrhills boys, one 10 and the other 8, were charged with arson and burglary after they allegedly broke into a mobile home and burned it to the ground, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

The boys, whose names are being withheld by the Times, told investigators that they went into a mobile home at 6542 Morrell Court about noon Friday and set fire to some papers, according to reports. When the papers ignited, the boys said, they got scared and ran away, reports state.

The house was abandoned more than nine months ago, neighbors told detectives.

The boys were taken to the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes and later released to their parents, reports state.

Woman charged with

trafficking in heroin

NEW PORT RICHEY _ A 24-year-old woman was arrested Friday and charged with trafficking in heroin and conspiracy to traffic heroin.

Amy Joe Cochran, 7441 Walnut St., was being held in the Pasco County jail in Land O'Lakes Saturday in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to jail records.

Detectives arrested three people last week on similar charges after a search of a home at 3534 Monticello St. revealed 21.2 grams in the base of a lamp that was hidden beneath a bed.

The Sheriff's Office said Cochran admitted to owning a share of the heroin.
